Guests often appreciate the Shears Inn's proximity to attractions like The Piece Hall and the train station. The rooms are generally considered a good size with comfortable beds, and having tea and coffee readily available is a plus. The food is often described as fantastic, and the pub offers corned beef & onion pie, and what some consider the best chips in Halifax. Some guests have found the bathroom layout a bit difficult, particularly with maneuvering around the toilet to access the shower.

Wonderful Pub Stay

friendly staffcomfy bedsmall bathroom
The staff at the pub was very kind. They waited for us even though the pub was to close at 10pm, our train was delayed until 11pm. The bedroom included a kettle with facilities for making tea. The bed was great with good streaming platforms on the TV. We were provided towels in addition to body and hand soap.
The bathroom was rather small, and the toilet seat moved when you sat on it, its sanilav system was very loud. I was unable to bend over the sink without burning myself on the radiator. Accessing the shower was also difficult because of space limitations. The pillows need replacement.
Dining
9/10
Food had good quality and generous portions, and staff was very friendly, especially attentive during quiz nights. The restaurant menu was good and priced fairly, many tables were reserved, indicating popularity. The restaurant makes amazing roast dinners.
Facilities
8/10
The Inn has a large car park. The location of the Inn is really tucked away, what makes the place quiet and a short distance from the town centre. The place is located not far from the train station and The Piece Hall.
Service
10/10
The staff was warm and cute. I enjoyed the food and atmosphere in the pub. The owners were lovely, they looked after us. Plenty of tea, coffee, and milk were provided.

Fantastic Stay at a Local Gem

friendly staffking size bedample parkingdaytime noise
The staff were friendly, and I felt at home there. The room was very clean and had a king size bed. I found the easy check-in process convenient. The pub next door offered a nice vibe. There was ample parking, a huge plus.
I noticed some noise in the room during the day, but thankfully the night was quiet.
Service
9/10
The staff welcomed me warmly and gave helpful directions (always appreciated). They also offered assistance with luggage and provided quick responses to inquiries. Their attentiveness really stood out.
Location
8/10
The hotel is tucked away down a cobbled land. I found it a short distance from key attractions. Taxis into town were readily available and inexpensive. Getting around was easy.
Dining
10/10
The food was excellent. The home-cooked meals were delicious and plentiful. I especially enjoyed the corned beef pie (i'm grateful). The open fire added to the warm atmosphere.
Rooms
9/10
The beautiful king room was simple, clean and cozy. The king-size bed provided great comfort during the night. I also appreciated the historical charm that was balanced with modern amenities.
